The Hunterian Society SCHOLARSHIP

AWARD

  • Applications are invited for a scholarship to assist with the fees and examination for the History of Medicine Course of the Worshipful Society of Apothecaries of London and will be paid directly to the Society of Apothecaries.
  • Free first year Fellowship of the Society will be offered

ELIGIBILITY

Fully registered, non-Consultant grade doctors, dentists and medical scientists and medical students.

CONDITIONS

  • Applicants should provide personal details including postal and e-mail address, eligibility etc and the title and outline of their proposed submission
  • Submission to include a short statement on reasons for wishing to attend the course
  • Dissertation should have some relevance to John or William Hunter or medicine in the 18th Century.
  • Entries should be submitted electronically
  • Completion of the Diploma in the History of Medicine Course of the Worshipful Society of Apothecaries of London including the examinations, dissertation and test lecture.
  • Presentation of a 10 or 15 minute abstract at the Inaugural meeting.
  • Award to be presented following the presentation at the Inaugural meeting held in September 2015

Timescale

  • Deadline for submissions August 20th 2016
  • Shortlisted candidates will be notified by August 30th 2016

AWARD

Prize of £500 and free first year Fellowship of the Society will be offered
The runners-up will be offered free first year Fellowship of the Society

ELIGIBILITY

Students and practitioners of medicine, dentistry and medical scientists of non-consultant grade

CONDITIONS

  • Applicants should provide personal details including postal and e-mail address, eligibility etc and the title and outline of their proposed submission
  • Each entrant to submit an essay of up to 1500 words plus references and illustrations on a subject of relevance to John or William Hunter or medicine in the 18th Century
  • Entries should be submitted electronically
  • Shortlisted entrants are expected to make a power-point presentation of 15 minutes, followed by a five-minute period of questions, to a meeting of the Society

Timescale

  • Deadline for submissions 1st November 2016
  • Shortlisted candidates will be notified by 3rd December 2016
  • Presentations and award of the Hunterian Society Prize will take place at a meeting in Jan 2017
